4Found the Secret Weapon in Jack3d, Bam!
By Jessie Garcia
I've been cycling jack3d for over a year, I'd say it's been my favorite supplement in that time and I've taken a whole lot of supplements so that's saying a lot. About three months ago, I stopped feeling the full effects of it and no I do not take it year round, this was the start of my new cycle and it just didn't pack the same punch it had in the past. After doing a bit of studying I found that the main ingredient in this stuff (besides caffeine) is DMAA.

There are so many different ingredients in jack3d, kind of like a little bit of everything but not a lot of anything. I dropped the creatine, still taking caffeine of course but also started taking DMAA in it's purest form. Found it on amazon, doesn't cost much and is the most potent DMAA I could find;10 Gram 1,3 Dimethylamylamine (DMAA or Geranamine) Bulk Powder. Only taking this and caffeine at the moment, feel like I'm on top of my game again, not only in the gym but out of it too.

I'm thinking about adding creatine back in again and basically have my own home-made jack3d supplement, just more of each thing. I have another 4 weeks though before I can even think about adding creatine so right now I'm just enjoying the ride and seeing where this stack takes me.

3works good.... but...
By Me
All the jack3d haters are right.
All the jack3d lovers are right.

As a blend of supplements that are proven effective, it is a product that works, but is not necessarily optimum for you.

This product works, every ingredient in it has been shown time and time again in studies to increase strength, stamina, cell volume, or otherwise serve its specified purpose. USP labs doesn't add any supplement that doesn't work into jack3d. The problem is that the doses of each supplement are predetermined by USP labs, and they won't even disclose how much of each is in a serving, since they "own" the proprietary blend which jack3d is composed of. Here is a breakdown of the active ingredients in it, and their purpose (in order that they're listed in the ingredients of the proprietary blend):

-AAKG: arginine alpha ketaglutarate: Creates a "pump" effect. Pretty cheap supplement by itself, recommended doses are from 2-3 grams per serving 2-3 times per day.
-Creatine monohydrate: One of the most common and cheapest supplements. No real reason to have it as a pre-workout, but an effective supplement in doses of 5-10 grams a day.
-Beta-alanine: An amino acid that binds to and fires nerve receptors. Pretty effective pre-workout for energy (prevents lactic acid build up in muscles, so you don't get worn out as quickly), but again a very cheap supplement by itself and serves a better purpose in its recommended doses, 2-3 grams a few times a day.
-Caffeine: duh.
-1, 3 dimethylamylamine: An effective energy booster. Banned by a lot of sports organizations. Takes about an hour to kick in, so its timing isn't really in sync with the other ingredients in jack3d. Again, a cheap supplement (search amazon for "DMAA" or "geranium extract", it's all the same)
-Schizandrol A: A pretty impressive berry extract that increases focus, but it's also another cheap supplement you can find on amazon.

So there you have the active ingredients. I went through one bottle of jack3d. It worked, but, as a very analytic person, I've decided that taking the doses that USP labs says is right for me isn't the most effective way to take supplements (and they won't even tell me what those doses are). It is much more effective for me (and most others) to buy the ingredients (or some of the ingredients) separately and take what works best for them. Since ending my use of jack3d, I've been taking beta-alanine, creatine, aakg, cittruline malate, 1, 3 dimethylamylamine capsules and caffeine pills for stamina and energy sources. I use them in effective doses at effective intervals, and my workouts are superior to my jack3d days. It's cheaper, and I know how much of each I put into my body.

Also, too much of this product is hype. Looking at the bottle, all you see is "University studied!" and "Warning! Don't take too much, you'll be TOO focused!" blah blah blah all over the bottle. Haha "warnings" about how effective it is, right? Find a popular workout supplement that isn't university studied and I'll be quite surprised. Also, note that nowhere on the bottle does it mention the outcome of that study. It's seeking out the consumers that don't care about the details, but may be impressed by the fact that it was studied. Researching that study online doesn't turn up bad results, but still, no reason to headline your product as "UNIVERSITY STUDIED!". For all the consumer knows (by the info supplied by the supplement), it could have been studied by the "University" of Phoenix... exactly USP labs' plan. They just want to hype up the users so the mentality helps people think higher of the product.

So, beyond the marketing, jack3d is nothing special, USP labs just put other supplements into the same bottle and surrounded it by hype.

Here's some amazon links to the ingredients separately if you're interested in making your own pre workout combination:
(And no, I don't sell any supplements or work for any company, these are all from different companies and sellers, and in my opinion they are the cheapest and purest sources of the ingredients. If you find a better source, please comment and let me know, I'd be interested myself and would like to let others know as well. These are the links to what I have been taking in lieu of Jack3d.)
AAKG: Primaforce AAKG or ON Nitric Boost (the capsules are a bit pricier though)
Creatine: ON Creatine Powder or NOW Foods Creatine Powder
Beta-alanine: NOW Beta Alanine Powder or ON Beta Alanine Powder (ON's is flavored, but more expensive)
Caffeine: Prolab Caffeine
1, 3 dimethylamylamine: Primaforce Energy Enhance
Schizandrol A: I actually don't use this, so I can't provide a promising link. If you have one let me know. With all the other energy supplements, I don't even think this one's needed though. When using the other stuff right, it's pretty intense.

BOTTOM LINE: If you're serious about supplements, like I am, buy the ingredients separately and take what works best for you. If you're NOT serious about supplements but still want a good workout, jack3d is for you. Jack3d is a simple but less effective blend (due to doses) of supplements. So like I said, the haters are right, the lovers are right. Depends what type of gym goer and supplement taker you are.

3Take on an empty stomach
By Amazonian
As you may have noticed, there are a pile of mixed reviews on this product. Having used it for a couple months, and hitting the gym pretty hard, I have the following Comments:

1) Yes it does work, but you have to be hitting the gym. It does not give you the "Stimulant" feeling like caffeine or ECA will.
2) Take it on an empty stomach. Any food whatsoever seemed to entirely stop it form working. However, when doing this, you risk an upset stomach. I recommend eating either 30 minutes BEFORE or a light meal 20 minutes after (accelerade or something similar)
3) Take 2 scoops 30 minutes before your workout, and mix the final scoop into water or a drink that you will consume during your workout.
4) You WANT the fire ants/skin crawling feeling to know it is in your system. Personally I like this flushing, and it is followed for me by energy, slight euphoria, and intense sweating.
5) You WILL build up a tolerance, so don't bother taking it other than pre-workout, and give yourself breaks.
6) This product will not do all the work for you, it is just a small factor in a good workout
